Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Courses for Appraisers

Effective January 1, 2026, the AQB requires all credentialed appraisers to complete an approved VB-FH course. Courses completed before this date still count. Check your state for specific deadlines.

All credentialed appraisers must complete a 7-hour VB-FH course by January 1, 2026, and an approved version of at least 4 hours every two years thereafter.

Aspiring appraisers and credential upgraders must complete an 8-hour VB-FH course (7-hour plus 1-hour exam) for any application submitted on or after January 1, 2026. This course is included in all Trainee QE packages and available for individual purchase.

Licensing Requirements

Effective January 1, 2026, the 8-hour VB-FH course is a mandatory part of the Required Core Curriculum set forth by the AQB in The Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria. All new licensees must successfully complete this course.

Planning to upgrade your credentials?

Choose the 8-hour VB-FH course instead of the 7-hour version to ensure you meet the new requirement taking effect January 1, 2026.

Upgrade Requirements

All appraisers must complete the 8-hour VB-FH Course to upgrade their credentials after January 1, 2026, regardless of when the original credential was earned.

What if you’ve previously taken the 7-hour course, but now need the 8-hour course to upgrade?

If an appraiser has completed the 7-hour course and then upgrades their license within 6 months of their last CE renewal, they only need to complete the 1-hour exam component from the 8-hour course. They must take the exam component from the same provider that administered the 7-hour course.

What if you’ve previously taken the 8-hour course as part of your QE requirements? Do you still need to complete the 7-hour CE course?

No. If you’ve successfully completed an 8-hour course (7-hour + 1-hour exam) as part of your qualifying education, you have already met this requirement.
